InnoHK Centre for Eye and Vision Research Limited (CEVR) is a research collaboration between The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the University of Waterloo (UW) in Canada, funded by the InnoHK initiative of the Innovation and Technology Commission (ITC) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government. We are located at the Hong Kong Science Park, New Territories, Hong Kong China. Having been running for almost five years, CEVR is excited to enter our second five years with three new key research platforms: 1) Preserving and Restoring Healthy Vision; 2) Next Generation Therapeutics & 3) Advanced Optometric Technologies. The mission of CEVR is to generate technologies that prevent, detect, treat and mitigate vision loss. The research positions of following project are now opened.


Project information

RP1.5s Project title: Novel Neuromodulation Approaches for Vision Enhancement in Adults

To develop the next generation of non-invasive brain stimulation technologies and protocols to enable optimal rehabilitation of vision across a range of eye and brain disorders that affect sight.


Required skills and job duty

The appointees will assist the project leaders in the research project: “Novel Neuromodulation Approaches for Vision Enhancement in Adults”.  The tasks include project development, study design/protocol, ethics application, experimental setup, literature research, model testing, hardware and software development for innovative instrument, data collection, data analysis, and preparation of manuscripts. The talent is also required to assist with the commercialization of the invention whenever applicable.


Qualification

Applicants for the Postdoctoral Fellow posts should have a doctoral degree or an equivalent qualification in Vision Science, Psychology, Neuroscience, Optometry, Ophthalmology, Engineering Rehabilitation or other related disciplines.

Applicants for the Research Associate posts should have a master’s degree or an equivalent qualification in one of the said disciplines.

Applicants for the Research Assistant posts should have an honours degree or an equivalent qualification in one of the said disciplines.

The appointees will be based in Hong Kong China. RP2.2s Project title: An Organoid Platform and Cell-Based Platform for Ocular Therapeutic Development

To develop ocular organoids and cells-on-a-chip models that can be marketed to pharmaceutical companies to enable rapid and low-cost testing of new therapeutics. Proof of concept testing of novel therapeutic approaches will demonstrate the viability, commercial applicability and potential value of the novel organoid model.

RP2.5s Project title: Integrated Dry Eye Diagnosis and Precision Therapies

This project is to advance clinical Dry Eye Disease (DED) biomarker detection, diagnosis, and treatment. This will be achieved through an interdisciplinary approach that encompasses cutting-edge molecular studies, clinical trials tailored to Chinese populations, and the development of innovative devices and technologies from a multidisciplinary team. The goal is to establish evidence-based, precision diagnosis and therapies for DED.

RP3.1s Project title: Eye Disease Diagnosis and Treatment Enabled by Novel Retinal Instrumentation

To utilize ultrafast laser technology previously developed in CEVR to deliver precision treatment to the retina using a unique adaptive optics scanning light ophthalmoscope (AOSLO) in order to detect the earliest stages of retinal degeneration.

RP3.2s Project title: Non-Invasive Tear-Based Diagnostic System

To establish the metabolomic and proteomic profiles of tear fluid as a tool for non-invasive diagnosis and monitoring of ocular disease. The project will develop non-invasive in vitro diagnostics (IVDs) and point-of-care tear analysis tests (POCT).

To combine advanced material design with state-of-the-art 3D printing technology to enable the affordable production of personalized and/or specialized contact lenses with a sustained ocular drug delivery feature through on-demand manufacturing.

Project information

RP3.4S Project title: Detection of Macular Degeneration and Myopia-Induced Retinal Damage Using Structured Light Technology: A Novel Approach Supporting Early Intervention for Vision Preservation

To harness recent breakthroughs in the application of structured light to vision health to enable: 1) objective macular polarity imaging for the detection of age-related macular degeneration; and 2) structured light vision testing for the detection of retinal degeneration caused by myopia.


Required skills and job duty

The appointees will assist the project leaders in the research project: “Detection of Macular Degeneration and Myopia-Induced Retinal Damage Using Structured Light Technology: A Novel Approach Supporting Early Intervention for Vision Preservation”.  The tasks include project development, study design/protocol, ethics application, experimental setup, literature research, model testing, project development, hardware and software development for innovative instrument, data collection, data analysis and preparation of manuscript.  The talent is also required to assist commercialization of the invention whenever applicable. 


Qualification

The appointee will report directly to the Marketing Manager and perform functions

supporting the marketing and media creation activities of CEVR. He/She will be required to:

  • Be responsible for creative concept development and handling all stages of design such as social media visual designs, infographics and animated shorts, video shooting and editing, Photography, photo retouching and mock-ups, brochures, POP, flyers, EDM, Booth Design, etc.
  • Support marketing initiatives with creative ideas and solutions.
  • Support technical campaigns and events.
  • Oversee creative design initiatives and coordinate with external partners.
  • Assist in updating website content
  • Support asking for a quotation on marketing materials, and coordinate the whole process
  • Perform ad-hoc projects/ duties as assigned by the CEO and Scientific Director, as well as COO and Deputy Scientific Director of CEVR and/or their delegates.

Qualification

Applicants should have:

  1. Relevant diploma or bachelor’s in multimedia design, graphic design, creative media, advertising, or related fields with at least 3 years of experiences
  2. Ability to conceptualize and create design content.
  3. Experienced in Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, After Effects, Premiere, Canvas etc.
  4. Experienced in using AI software ( Adobe Firefly, Midjourney, Runway, etc.) to facilitate the design process is a plus.
  5. Strong artistic sense and marketing
  6. Knowledge of 3D animation is a plus
  7. Good team player, multi-tasking, willing to learn, open-minded, and highly responsible
  8. Pro-active attitude and ability to work independently and able to meet tight deadlines.
  9. Good command of written and spoken English and Chinese
