Two of CEVR’s innovative projects have received prestigious awards at this acclaimed annual event dedicated to invention. The Eye-On-a-Chip Device was awarded the Gold Medal, and the Biomimetics Nanoplatform for the Treatment of Retinal Diseases received the Silver Medal.
The Eye-On-a-Chip Device, developed by our exceptional team—Dr. Liping Zhou, Dr. Kaya Wong, Dr. Chau-Minh Phan, and Dr. Brandon Ho—represents the next generation of in vitro platforms. This cutting-edge device mimics key physiological functions of the human eye through microfluidics, cell culture, and biomimetic engineering. Designed for researchers and pharmaceutical companies, it enables real-time monitoring and automated computational analysis of cellular responses to ophthalmic solutions, drugs, medical devices, and environmental stressors.
The Biomimetics Nanoplatform for the Treatment of Retinal Diseases, led by Prof. Chi-Wai Do and Prof. Emmanuel Ho, CEVR’s Principal Investigator, along with the talented researcher Ms. Huan Li, addresses significant challenges in retinal disease treatments. This innovative platform utilizes natural immune cell membrane materials to create a biomimetic nanodrug delivery system. By leveraging precise biorecognition, it targets and delivers drugs directly to sites of neuroinflammation in the retina, facilitating controlled drug release. Additionally, it protects unstable and easily degradable drugs, enhancing therapeutic efficacy while minimizing off-target effects.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the entire team for their remarkable work and dedication! At CEVR, we are committed to advancing research in Eye and Vision Health.
Stay tuned for more updates on our groundbreaking projects and initiatives as we continue to shape the future of eye care!
