CEVR Celebrating 2024 World Sight Day togather with Happy Retired Members

In celebrating “World Sight Day” on October 10 2024 (Thursday), the Centre for Eye and Vision Research (CEVR) collaborated with Happy Retired to hold the first-ever CEVR Open Day on September 27, 2024 (Friday). The event successfully concluded, aiming to provide the new middle-aged demographic with insights into CEVR’s innovative eye vision research technologies and to foster communication between the public and the research community.

During the event, participants had the opportunity to experience firsthand the cutting-edge eye vision technologies and learn how to maintain eye health and prevent vision impairment. Professional optometrists shared valuable information on the causes and treatments of macular degeneration, as well as practical advice for maintaining visual health, benefiting attendees greatly.

To further deepen the understanding of CEVR’s research efforts among the new middle-aged group, three key research projects were introduced:

  • ObstAR – Augmented Reality (AR) Device Built to Aid the Visually Impaired: Assisting visually impaired individuals in detecting obstacles in their surroundings.
  • Quantum Imaging Diagnostic Tool: Detecting early stages of macular degeneration.
  • Post-Stroke Visual Midline Shift Research Project: Exploring the impact of strokes on vision.

Participants were highly engaged, expressing curiosity about the research projects and actively experiencing the latest technological advancements and having in-depth discussions with professionals. The event fostered valuable interactions between the public and the research community and enhancing awareness of vision health.
