Dry eye disease (DED) is a multifactorial ocular condition that impacts up to 50% of the global population, causing chronic pain and discomfort. This project aims to develop integrated, precision-based diagnostic and therapeutic solutions for DED (through a multidisciplinary approach tailored to Chinese populations. Recognizing the complex and multifactorial nature of DED, the study focuses on advancing molecular diagnostics, AI-assisted clinical assessment, and biomarker discovery. Key research activities include developing aptamer-based corneal staining for accurate diagnosis, AI models trained on population-specific imaging data, tear proteomics to identify disease markers, and evaluation of novel treatments, including traditional Chinese medicine, natural supplements, and advanced drug delivery systems targeting underlying inflammatory and oxidative mechanisms.
