Development of New-Generation Contact Lenses Using Novel Materials and Additive Manufacturing

Principle Investigators

Overview

3D printing has unlocked new fabrication possibilities, enabling complex designs and on-demand manufacturing that were previously not achievable. The study focuses on creating 3D-printable, hydrophilic silicone biomaterials that enable personalized fabrication of contact lenses with integrated, sustained ocular drug delivery. Using a single-step ink formulation and rapid photopolymerization, the project develops durable, high-water-content hydrogel materials with tunable mechanical properties and therapeutic functionality beyond conventional vision correction.
